Bay Microsystems Ships First 40G Processor

ANAHEIM, CA -- Bay Microsystems announced the commercial availability of the world's first 40 gigabit network processor, called the Chesapeake.

While consuming only 16 watts of power, the company claims the unit can process up to 122 million packets per second and has a search rate capacity of 622 million searches per second.

Bay Microsystems states that the processor is ideally suited for quadruple play networks, whether they are Metro Ethernet, MPLS, IPv4/v6 or legacy.
